GOD FORBID By Jim Searcy
God Forbid - Simple words. "If" is a simple little
word. It seems that sometimes we don't give adequate
consideration to simple words. What does God Forbid mean?
Obviously, God Forbid is something wrong that we should not be
found doing. Is there more to it?
God Forbid, appears 24 times in the Authorized word of God, 9 in
the Old Testament, and 15 times in the New Testament.
"God forbid," is found in the gospels only once in Luke
20:16. Paul used the word 14 times. Peter told us, that even in
his day, Paul's Epistles were not easily understood. Perhaps if
we were to have a better understanding of "God forbid"
it would help us better understand many things.
We are in the midst of strong delusion, great apostasy, and the
fullness of the mystery of iniquity. Understanding "God
forbid" can help us understand those things that are
"hard to be understood." Peter warned us that those
"hard to be understood" things would be perverted by
the false teachers in these last days. These same things would be
stumbling blocks to the unlearned and unstable. False teachers
and the unlearned and the unstable would pervert or wrest, simple
things like "if" and "God Forbid" and other
pure simple words in the scriptures, "unto their own
destruction." Let us NOT be deceived. In all your getting
get understanding. Let us see how much understanding we may find
in the simple expression "God forbid."
Let us let the word of God and the Spirit of Truth just take us
through those 24 verses where we find "God forbid."
Gen 44:7 And they said unto him, Wherefore saith my lord these
words? God forbid that thy servants should do according to this
thing:
Gen 44:17 And he said, God forbid that I should do so: but the
man in whose hand the cup is found, he shall be my servant; and
as for you, get you up in peace unto your father.
Josh 22:29 God forbid that we should rebel against the LORD, and
turn this day from following the LORD, to build an altar for
burnt offerings, for meat offerings, or for sacrifices, beside
the altar of the LORD our God that is before his tabernacle.
Josh 24:16 And the people answered and said, God forbid that we
should forsake the LORD, to serve other gods;
1 Sam 12:23 Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin
against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you
the good and the right way:
1 Sam 14:45 And the people said unto Saul, Shall Jonathan die,
who hath wrought this great salvation in Israel? God forbid: as
the LORD liveth, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the
ground; for he hath wrought with God this day. So the people
rescued Jonathan, that he died not.
1 Sam 20:2 And he said unto him, God forbid; thou shalt not die:
behold, my father will do nothing either great or small, but that
he will show it me: and why should my father hide this thing from
me? it is not so.
1 Chr 11:19 And said, My God forbid it me, that I should do this
thing: shall I drink the blood of these men that have put their
lives in jeopardy? for with the jeopardy of their lives they
brought it. Therefore he would not drink it. These things did
these three mightiest.
Job 27:5 God forbid that I should justify you: till I die I will
not remove mine integrity from me.
Luke 20:16 He shall come and destroy these husbandmen, and shall
give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said,
God forbid.
Those listening to Jesus clearly understood the Old Testament
foundation of "God Forbid." If you have ANY fear of
God, then you would not think or do such a thing. It would be
UNTHINKABLE for a godly person to think or do such a thing. It is
laughable for someone to claim to fear God and think or do such a
thing. NO ONE, who is led by the Spirit of Truth and Holiness,
would THINK or DO such a thing.
Now let us see if this gives us a deeper understanding for some
of the hard to be understood things Paul was trying to teach us
when he said "God forbid."
When Paul says "God forbid" he means the same thing
that people who really listen to Jesus UNDERSTAND - NO ONE, WHO
IS LED BY THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH AND HOLINESS, WOULD THINK OR DO
SUCH A THING.
Rom 3:3 For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief
make the faith of God without effect?
Rom 3:4 God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar;
as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings,
and mightest overcome when thou art judged.
Rom 3:5 But if our unrighteousness commend the righteousness of
God, what shall we say? Is God unrighteous who taketh vengeance?
(I speak as a man)
Rom 3:6 God forbid: for then how shall God judge the world?
Rom 3:31 Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid:
yea, we establish the
law.
Rom 6:1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that
grace may abound?
Rom 6:2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any
longer therein?
Rom 6:15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the
law, but under grace? God forbid.
Rom 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants
to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto
death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
Rom 7:7 What shall we say then? is the law sin? God forbid. Nay,
I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust,
except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.
Rom 7:13 Was then that which is good made death unto me? God
forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by
that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become
exceeding sinful.
Rom 9:14 What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with
God? God forbid.
Rom 9:15 For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will
have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have
compassion.
Rom 11:1 I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid.
For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe
of Benjamin.
Rom 11:11 I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall?
God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto
the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy.
1 Cor 6:15 Know ye not that your bodies are the members of
Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them
the members of an harlot? God forbid.
1 Cor 6:16 What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot
is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.
Gal 2:17 But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we
ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the
minister of sin? God forbid.
Gal 2:18 For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I
make myself a transgressor.
Gal 3:21 Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid:
for if there had been a law given which could have given life,
verily righteousness should have been by the law.
Gal 6:13 For neither they themselves who are circumcised keep the
law; but desire to have
you circumcised, that they may glory in your flesh.
Gal 6:14 But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of
our Lord Jesus Christ, by
whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
If the verse began with "God forbid" the preceding
verse is included, and if the versed ended in "God
forbid" the next verse was included to keep simple context.
For those things taken out of context become pretexts for
anything.
Those walking by faith, in the Spirit of life IN Christ Jesus
find no great surprise. Those words are words of comfort. Those
words are words of stability and certainty. Those words are words
of TRUE righteousness bringing peace and joy in the Holy Ghost.
Those who wrest and pervert and twist the scriptures to their own
destruction will be shocked by those "God forbid"
verses of Paul in simple context. They will have a hard time with
them. Those who are NOT walking by faith in the Spirit of life IN
Christ Jesus find those words to be very unsettling. GOOD!
Alleluia, there is hope for you. You may find repentance and may
yet still learn the truth. I pray that you will. I am not trying
to teach you anything.
People will believe what they choose to believe. Yeshua said you
will KNOW the truth and
the truth will set you free. If the Son, Who is The Truth, the
very Living Word of God, will
set you free, THEN you will be free indeed. I hope you don?t say,
"My church does not
believe that way." If so, get out of such a church before it
is too late.
